Work-hour arithmetic you can inspect.
ShiftTotal is an independent collection of calculators and record templates. It helps you trace a result back to clock times, break minutes and explicit assumptions.
What the tools calculate
Clock readings are converted to whole minutes after midnight. Next day adds 1,440 minutes to the finish. A signed clock-change adjustment is applied, then the entered unpaid break minutes are subtracted. Daily worked minutes are added before decimal conversion. A two-week card retains separate seven-day totals.
Optional pay estimates apply one hourly rate and, when selected, one weekly threshold and multiplier. No taxes, employment classifications, daily overtime rules, multiple rates, holiday premiums or contract terms are inferred. The tools do not determine legally owed wages or certify a time record.
Limits that matter
Each card row accepts one shift interval of up to 24 clock hours plus a supplied adjustment. A whole shift is assigned to its starting date; it is not automatically split at midnight or a workweek boundary. Time zones and daylight-saving changes are not inferred. Break classification and the accuracy of source records remain outside the calculation.
The decimal converter accepts durations longer than one day. Its reverse conversion shows fractional total minutes and a readable result rounded to the nearest minute. Decimal display rounding is not an employer time-rounding policy. Blank timesheets contain no calculation at all.
How examples and changes are checked
Worked examples are recomputed from their stated inputs. Calculation checks cover midnight crossings, break deductions, clock adjustments, weekly grouping, decimal conversion and invalid inputs. Layout and export checks accompany changes. These checks reduce mistakes but do not guarantee that every browser, printer or real-world situation is covered; review your own output before relying on it.
October 27, 2026: replaced repeated tool guidance with distinct examples and boundaries, added a dedicated single-shift breakdown, two-way decimal conversion, a true blank timesheet and CSV-review guidance. Two-week printouts now separate the weeks, and editing inputs invalidates old results.
Privacy and advertising
Time entries and generated exports are handled in your browser. They are not submitted to ShiftTotal or retained after a page reload. Optional paper preferences are stored locally. Analytics is optional; the Privacy page explains its use. Do not include confidential employment records or personal identifiers when reporting a problem.
Advertising is currently disabled. This version reserves future placements for the two editorial guides only. Calculator forms, generated results, blank templates, printed records and legal pages have no ad placements. Account approval and applicable consent setup are separate requirements before advertising is activated.
Report a reproducible problem
Use the contact form with the page address, a made-up set of inputs that shows the problem, your expected result and the result you saw. Include the browser and paper settings for layout issues. A synthetic example usually gives enough detail without disclosing a name, employer or payroll record. ShiftTotal is not affiliated with a payroll vendor or government agency and makes no professional accreditation claim.
